The highest peaks of the Netherlands are located in Limburg and a beautiful walking route has been created here. It is called the toughest tour in the Netherlands. The walking route runs from Eygelshoven to Maastricht and goes over the seven steepest and most striking mountain peaks in South Limburg. You walk around 20 km per day and along the way you see marl quarries, fruit trees, sunken roads, beautiful views, old churches and monasteries and you walk through Maastricht, Geuldal, Eijsden, Gulpen, Vaals and Kerkrade. Every day you will be brought to the starting point and picked up again at the end and taken to the campsite. Kim from Pippin Foods is here for you with her Food Truck with breakfast, lunch, dinner and delicious snacks and drinks. all inclusive. That will be great fun

On adventure

Day 1 | 12km

Today you are expected at the campsite between 10:30 and 11:00. Time for a cup of coffee and something sweet. After lunch we start with a short walk of about 12 km. Kim takes us to the starting point in Eygelshoven and we walk via the Wilhelminaberg (the first peak, 225 meters) via the Gaia Zoo to Kerkrade and end at Kasteel Wasserburg, Haus Heyden just across the German border. Kim takes us back to the campsite and we can prepare for a delicious dinner that Kim and Jan make from the Foodtruck / Mobile kitchen.

Day 6

After completing the route yesterday, it is time this morning to relax and look back on the beautiful walking route. We have breakfast in peace because we don't have to walk anymore.
After coffee it's time to pack your things and drive back home and you can look back on a wonderful walking holiday in the south of Limburg. You have completed the heaviest walking route in the Netherlands!

Day 5 | 25km

Today we hike the last and most difficult stage. We walk through abandoned quarries and overgrown marl walls. The limestone is crumbly and the precipices deep and very steep paths here and there. In other words, an interesting part of the route. We start through the villages of Mariadorp and Eijsden, after which we take the ferry across the Maas and start the ascent to the seventh top; The Observant. After this we walk to Maastricht for a well-deserved drink, we go out for dinner and we finish at the station of Maastricht.

Day 4 | 20km

You wake up with the smell of fresh coffee and sandwiches. Today, after breakfast and shower, it is time for a wonderful walk of about 20 km. This day we start with the Hakkenberg, the fifth peak that we will conquer and we cross the Kattenroth. We walk a bit through Belgium and through the town of Sint-Martens Voeren. Along the way beautiful views over the Geuldal. Back at the campsite we can get a delicious cold drink from the food truck and enjoy with our feet up.

Day 3 | 23km

After another delicious breakfast and hot shower, a 23 km walk is on the program. Today the top of the Eyserbos and that of the Gulperberg. Lots of pastoral landscape, vineyards, interspersed with forests. On the way we pass the Geul and the Eyserbeek and we see nice places like 'De Piepert' and 'Wahlwiller'. There was heavy fighting around the Eyserberg during the war and many traces of this can still be found. After the walk we drive back and enjoy a wonderful evening at the tipi tents and food truck.

Day 2 | 22km

After a delicious fresh breakfast we start with a walk of about 22 km. Today we are on the Schneeberg. The second apex. We walk through the beautiful Limburg landscape and a piece of Germany. On the way we stop for a delicious picnic. After lunch we continue walking.
We pass through the old village of Orsbach and along the way see part of the Siegfried Line with dragon's teeth that fortified the border. We see the three-country point near Vaals and its beautiful forests.

The Dutch Mountain Trail

The Dutch Mountain Trail was created in 2020. This route was officially launched at the Dutch Mountain Film Festival in connection with the festival's tenth anniversary. It is regarded as one of the toughest route in the Netherlands because it passes over seven Dutch peaks. Fortunately, our peaks are not that high and you can walk over peaks of up to 323 meters (on the Vaalserberg). Nevertheless, you should not underestimate this hike and you will certainly feel your calves well on the mainly unpaved paths.
